All it takes is a quick scroll of her website's homepage to remember that, though Autumn Durald Arkapaw is best known for Sinners, the film for which she finally won an Oscar, she's long deserved to be a household name (fwiw, Loki is our favorite example of her cinemaphotography genius).
And so, when it came time to put together our inaugural AAPI Collection, her recent rise to pop culture fame seemed a perfect excuse to honor her. After all, how could Dee pass up a chance to honor a woman so proud of her Filipino and Black Creole heritage?
In honor of a creative genius who has made a life of feasts of the eyes, we've made a cookie that combines jewels from the crowns of both of her cultures of origin: pandan and pralines. Our amazing rice flour based cookie dough felt like the perfect place for the merging of these worlds, given rice's status at the foundational grain for both cuisines. We've added the highest quality pandan extract we could find, a bit of ginger for a firm foundation, folded in the batch ends of our signature pralines and amped the culinary glory with a generous addition of some deeply toasted pecans. The result is something that tastes like a daydream. Creamy, earthy, and as much scented as it is flavored, the cookie is a work of art worthy of its namesake.
