There are few Black artists from the past 30 years who call to mind LOVE (or, frankly, lust) in the way that D'Angelo did. First, his very first album was the first love child of his ill fated relationship with musician Angie Stone. Secondly, his Untitled music video was the awakening of the, um, hunger of a generation.

Born Michael Eugene Archer, D'Angelo not only came to be deeply respected as a musician's musician, he was a Kevin Bacon figure in collaborative work and the community building that comes with deeply loving your craft and your people. With associated acts as varied as former partner Angie Stone, Questlove, Anthony Hamilton, Raphael Saadiq, Prince, and Ms. Lauryn Hill, there's barely a corner of modern R&B music that isn't less than six degrees of separation from D'Angelo. Though he achieved his highest level of pop culture success for music about love and lovemaking, the musician cut his chops in the Black church, and was deeply powered by a longing to see a just and verdant society exist for Black people in America.

Around these Deez Cookies parts, D'Angelo is part of the bakery soundtrack. The chances that Really Love plays in the background during any given shift at the kitchen are HIGH. The chances that a late night baking marathon is powered by a station began using a D'Angelo song are even higher.

And so, his passing last year was a gut punch to the actual flow of the kitchen. It was also a beautiful excuse to teach one of our favorite young colleagues more about him. Tragically, that young person also left earthside late last year. The tears and D'Angelo songs have flowed freely.

If you are not a fan of the sub genre known as Neo-Soul music, you are likely to only be familiar with two songs by D'Angelo: Nothing Even Matters and Brown Sugar.

Our Brown Sugar Milk Punch Blondie is not named after the song or the album. But we're in on the vibe being set. So we leaned into the Blondie as the perfect vehicle for a tribute cookie. We've remixed this gem from our Greatest Hits Collection with cherries and rainforest alliance certified chocolate, nods to the smoothly crooned line from Me and Those Dreamin' Eyes of Mine, one of our favorite tracks on the album. We think you'll really love it.
