There are people who feel like home. Ivory Levert and her husband Ernest, have spent the years that most people use to climb ladders making homes. Not literal ones, but communities where people who care about love, justice, and care for the Earth can find kinship, safety, and room to grow. They have done so while loving one another and growing two tiny humans.
We have made this cookie in celebration of Ivory’s work through Plant the Power, Black Women in Nature, Rise & Bloom Yoga, Zora’s House, and her valiant love for her husband and young children as she cares for all of them on the other side of her husband’s tragic accident in April 2024.Â
So what's the cookie? We began with sweet potato since it's the star of Ivory's favorite Deez Cookie. The cookie needed to be vegan like its namesake. After considering how we might incorporate Ivory's name and her easy and joyful identity as a Black woman, it didn't take long to get to a toasted marshmallow topped sweet potato casserole. The cookie has warm organic spices, organic refined coconut oil, a beautiful gluten-free flour blend, and a vegan marshmallow that has taken the heat and come through better on the other side. It is the beauty that is Ivory, a queen who has more than earned her crown.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this cookie will be donated to the Levert Family in support of their life and expenses as Ernest continues on the long road to recovery.
