If the U.S. Civil Rights Movement were the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the leaders of the Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) were the X-Men. Truly. From Ella Baker to Julian Bond to Diane Nash to James Forman to Marion Barry to John Lewis to Kwame Ture (originally Stokley Carmichael), this group of primarily college students played a central role in the Civil Rights Movement. From lunch counter sit-ins, to the Freedom Rides, to voting rights strategy, to the Selma to Montgomery March, to the March on Washington, SNCC was a thought leader, a partner, a gatherer, and a mover of minds and people. February 1st marked the 65th anniversary of the event that was the catalyst for their birth, the Greensboro Lunch Counter Sit In.

In honor of this originally integrated and nonviolent movement for social change, we've created a brown sugar snickerdoodle. It made sense to honor these young Americans and their life risking journey to move our country to honor the full citizenship, dignity, and humanity of all Americans through an all-American cookie. And it made more sense to kiss that American cookie with molasses. Because, through its organizational journey, SNCC eventually came to place more deep emphasis on Black pride, believing their was nothing antithetical about being proud to be both Black and American.
